The short version

  • UUusage works on your Mac. It reads usage records that your AI coding tools already keep and shows the numbers in your menu bar.
  • Those records can contain your conversations. UUusage extracts usage numbers and does not store or upload conversation text.
  • We don’t operate a server that receives your usage data, and the app contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking code.
  • When you connect a service with a key or token, UUusage contacts that service directly from your Mac to fetch usage or balance figures.
  • Keys and tokens are kept in your Mac’s Keychain. You can disconnect a service, and undo changes UUusage made to Claude Code’s settings, at any time.

01What UUusage reads on your Mac

UUusage only reads folders you allow it to access, using the standard macOS folder-access prompt. It uses them to calculate token counts, limits and reset times.

SourceWhat is readWhat UUusage keeps
Claude CodeSession log files (.jsonl) under projects/ in the folder you choose. These files are written by Claude Code and may contain your conversations and code. The whole file is read, but only the fields listed in the next column are taken from it.Only numbers and labels needed for usage: timestamps, token counts and model names. Conversation text is not stored or uploaded by UUusage.
CodexSession records (rollout-*.jsonl) in the folder you choose.Limit percentages, window lengths, reset times and token counts. UUusage does not open Codex’s sign-in file (auth.json) and does not read account credentials.

Claude Code limits (optional)

Showing Claude Code’s 5-hour and weekly limits is optional and off unless you choose it. If you do, UUusage first shows you the exact old and new command, then changes one setting in Claude Code’s settings.json (the statusLine entry) so that Claude Code runs a small command that saves your current limit numbers to a .uusage folder inside the folder you authorised. UUusage keeps a copy of your previous setting in your Keychain, and disconnecting the service offers to restore it.

02What is stored, and where

  • Usage history — numbers, stored in the app’s storage on this Mac: recent detailed samples for about 8 days, daily totals for about 90 days, and daily token totals per service and account for up to about 400 days so the 6-month and 1-year charts work. The long-term records hold dates, service, account identifier and token counts, not conversation text, file paths or model names.
  • Account details — the nicknames you give services (for example “My Codex”), your folder choices (saved as macOS security-scoped bookmarks), and onboarding and alert state, all kept on this Mac.
  • Keys and tokens — stored in your Mac’s Keychain, marked as available on this device only and not synchronised, and used only to contact the service they belong to. A copy of your previous Claude Code statusLine setting, if you used the limits option, is kept in the Keychain too.
  • Settings — your preferences (refresh interval, notifications, appearance, language) stay on this Mac.
  • Trial and purchase state — the trial start date is recorded in the Keychain and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in iCloud key-value storage under your Apple Account, and is compared with the App Store’s first-download date, so that reinstalling doesn’t restart the trial. A cached purchase state is kept in the Keychain. We do not receive this information.
  • Exports — a CSV export (columns: date, service, account nickname, token count) is created only when you ask for it and is saved where you choose.

Nothing is synchronised through iCloud except the trial start date described above. If we add syncing or other new data handling, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy information before it is released.

03When UUusage connects to the internet

Reading Claude Code and Codex records does not need a network connection. UUusage goes online only for services you connect, and for Apple services:

ServiceWhyWhat is sent
GitHub (github.com, api.github.com)Read GitHub Copilot plan usage (and, where offered, sign in with GitHub’s device flow)Your fine-grained token or sign-in token and the usage request, which includes your GitHub username in its address
DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com)Read account balanceThe key you entered and the balance request
Moonshot, for Kimi (api.moonshot.ai, api.moonshot.cn)Read Open Platform balanceThe key you entered and the balance request
MiniMax (www.minimax.io)Read remaining plan quotaThe M Plan key you entered and the quota request
Apple (App Store, iCloud)Purchase, restore, trial start dateHandled by Apple under its own privacy policy

These requests go straight from your Mac to the service over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. They don’t pass through us. Each service handles the request under its own privacy policy and terms. Links you open from UUusage (for example, a service’s usage page) open in your browser.

04What we receive

  • From the app: nothing. The app doesn’t send your usage, keys, file contents or device identifiers to us.
  • From Apple: when you buy or restore, Apple processes the payment. We receive only the transaction information Apple makes available to developers. We never see your payment card details.
  • When you contact us: the information you choose to send, such as your email address and your message. We use it only to answer you and keep a record of the conversation for as long as needed for that purpose.

05Sharing

We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. The app doesn’t include third-party advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. Data goes to a third party only when you connect that service (section 3), or when the law requires us to disclose information we hold.

06Your choices

  • Disconnect a service in Settings → Services to remove its key from the Keychain. For folder-based services you can also choose to delete the local data UUusage built from that folder. For GitHub you can also revoke access in your GitHub settings.
  • Undo Claude Code changes when disconnecting the service, to restore your previous statusLine setting.
  • Stop folder access for Claude Code or Codex at any time in Settings → Services.
  • Notifications can be turned off in UUusage or in System Settings.
  • Delete the rest: UUusage doesn’t yet have a separate “clear all history” button. Deleting the app does not by itself remove Keychain items or the trial start date kept in iCloud key-value storage; the trial date is kept deliberately so that reinstalling does not restart the trial. Disconnect your services first if you want their keys removed.

07Security

Keys are kept in the macOS Keychain, network requests use HTTPS and are limited to the services listed above,. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so please keep your Mac and your keys protected, and use keys and tokens with the least access a service allows.

08This website

This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or third-party scripts, and it has no forms. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may record visitors’ IP addresses and similar request information for security and operation, under its own privacy policy. We don’t use that information to identify visitors.

09Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move personal information, or to object to certain uses. Because most UUusage data stays on your Mac or with the services you connect, you can manage it directly in the app or with that service. For information we hold, such as support emails, contact us and we will respond within the time required by law. You may also contact your local data protection authority.

10Children

UUusage is a tool for developers and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.

11Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or in the release notes before they take effect. Questions or requests: support@uuusage.com.
